Chips	usually fries, although they also call potato chips “chips”
Sharemate/flatmate	roommate
Giddy	dizzy
Fits	seizures
Query	question/possible (as in abdominal pain query gallstones)
Queue	line
Straight away	right now
Take away	to go or take out
Mobile phone	obviously cell phone but no-one would say cell phone
Surname	last name
Chemist	pharmacist
Fair dinkum	a good try or a genuine attempt

EFTPOS	direct debit, as in using your bank card to pay for stuff at the store
Long black	americano
Short black	espresso
Flat white	coffee with milk?? We haven’t figured these out yet
Pie	like a pot pie, a savory food baked in a crust and often served with mushy peas and gravy
Beetroot	beet
Spinach	swiss chard
English spinach	spinach
Pumpkin	squash
Capsicum	bell peppers (as in the mild green, yellow and red peppers)

Bits	parts, typically body parts (“tone up your flabby bits” “cover her private bits”)

Cuppa	a cup of tea
